Suriname Language

In dutch is the main Suriname language, but don’t be surprised if you meet a lot of languages in Suriname.The reason for many languages in Suriname is because of the diversity of the Surinamese people. We came from all over the world including Netherlands, Africa, China, India and Indonesia. Besides the historical immigrants we also have recent immigrants who fled to Suriname for a better live such as the Brazilian, Haitians, Guyanese.

So yeah the main and official language is dutch, But with the blend came a self developed language called Sranang Tongo, Which is used by all ethnic groups in Suriname to communicate with each other on a street level. This language is so popular in use it is also used in the Netherlands  in their own street language called straat taal.

So come and mix with the people and learn a few words in Sranan Tongo.
